An eBook (or an electronic printed book) can be read on a computer or a mobile device. Like any book out there, its subject matter can cover anything.

As you can imagine, we’re always testing and experimenting in our line of work. What we’ve found is that clients who produce high quality eBooks have higher conversion and optimisation rates. Why? It makes sense… when you provide your ideal customer with a value for money freebie (otherwise known as a lead magnet), you’re earning their trust without asking for anything in return.

When explaining this idea in the past, a lot of business owners new to the idea ask: but aren’t we giving away all of our secrets for free by creating an eBook? Sure, you’re giving away a value for money eBook but with a goal in mind. At the end of the day, your customers are unlikely to be able to do whatever you do as well as you do it. So by being generous and giving them something for nothing while displaying your expertise, you’re earning their trust. As a result, they’re far more likely to buy from you moving forward.

Don’t just take our word for it. There are numerous companies out there using this clever tactic to convert customers. One great example is Foundr magazine. As soon as you land on their website, you see three eBooks that are free to download. Each has a different purpose and is used by Foundr to interest their target market (entrepreneurs) into enrolling in one of their services or buying their digital magazine. For instance, they just launched an Instagram Domination course where they used a combination of video and eBooks to sell their audience into the online course that contains four modules.

Of course, for the most effective conversion rate optimisation, there are a number of strategies that can be used and that’s where we come in. Three of our favourites include:

  • Creating landing pages

Serving as an entry point for a website or a particular section of a website, landing pages are a fantastic way to increase conversions. We tend to use a mix of two or three landing pages and test which converts best with the target audience. The best landing pages are clear, attractive and use proven colour schemes to interest and engage with customers (for example, orange is a great colour to use selectively).

  • Use the power of storytelling

Within your eBook, if you can hone in on a couple of stories that effectively illustrate the difference your product/service can make to your customers, you’re winning. Of course, these stories can them be pulled out and used as short videos and across your social marketing channels or even incorporated into your landing pages.

  • Drive people to your eBook with offers

There’s nothing like giving people a time limit to spark their interest. In the past, we’ve seen clients have great success with offers such as:

  • Download your copy for free for 1 week only
  • Get a discounted copy for 24 hours only

Fact: people are unlikely to act immediately when learning your eBook exists unless they really happen to need your product or service immediately. Giving people a time limit and the impression that the eBook is flying out the door, encourages them to act quickly and before they miss out.
